Sport Management

The concentration in Sport Management which is approved by the New York State Education Department offers an innovative interdisciplinary approach that combines sport management courses with courses from business marketing, business management, history, journalism, and sociology. In addition, students will have the option of taking a 15-credit business minor.

The 21-credit interdisciplinary Sport Management concentration is designed to prepare students for entrylevel positions in sports management as well as graduate study. The concentration examines typical sports management responsibilities such as public relations, finance, budgeting, management theory and practice, marketing, licensing, sponsorship, legal and ethical considerations, event planning and facility management.

The sports industry in Brooklyn and New York City is a vital part if the local economy. Students with academic preparation and experience focused on the business of sport have a decided edge in the job market. The proximity of the Brooklyn Campus to the largest and most rapidly expanding sports industries in the world including the Barclays Center/Brooklyn Nets as well as the headquarters of major league: baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer in New York City is highly advantageous for those students seeking internships and career opportunities in professional and college sports, fitness, recreation and sports marketing firms. Students have the opportunity to apply their classroom learning by interning in a sport organization through SPS 264 Field Experience
