LIU is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (telephone: 267-284-5000).
Once every ten years, the University undergoes a comprehensive process of self-assessment and peer review in order to ensure that it meets the Commission’s standards for accreditation, set forth in Characteristics of Excellence. The University’s mission statement serves as the lens through which the institution and the Commission’s evaluation team view the standards and apply them to the University.
At the five-year point between decennial reviews, the institution produces a Periodic Review Report that offers an overview of the current state of the institution. LIU submitted its PRR in 2008.
The University is scheduled for its next decennial accreditation review by the Commission on Higher Education in 2012-2013. For more information on this process and its related activities, please see Middle States Self-Study Report.

In addition to the institutional accreditation provided by Middle States, many of LIU’s academic programs are accredited by specialized accreditation agencies.
