The Office of Special Events, which is a unit of University Relations, produces a wide range of events in support of the University’s mission. From concerts that have featured entertainers including Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and Jimmy Buffett, to elegant affairs at New York City venues including Cipriani and the University Club, to golf tournaments at some of Long Island's most prestigious courses, the Office creates memorable, high-profile events that serve to raise funds for scholarships and other student-centered initiatives, and to enhance the institution’s image. Many of the events recognize individuals and corporate leaders who have made an impact on higher education; others celebrate unique achievements and programs. An annual highlight is the George Polk Awards Luncheon, during which the University bestows some of the most coveted honors in journalism to reporters from across the country.
