Announcement from President Steinberg
TO: LIU Community
FROM: David J. Steinberg
DATE: November 28, 2012
SUBJECT: University Commencement Ceremony – May 16, 2013
Commencement is a time-honored, beautiful ritual that symbolically marks the end of the academic year, linking each institution to its own roots and all to a tradition that dates back many centuries. For our students and their families, it is a day filled with joy as they celebrate a dream fulfilled. For our faculty, staff and administrators, it offers an opportunity to take pride in the role they have played in helping these men and women to achieve their personal and professional goals and to grow intellectually. This coming spring, for the first time in our history, the entire LIU community will come together for one grand event reflecting the scope of our shared educational mission.
On Thursday, May 16, 2013, LIU will celebrate the success of every one of our students at a single commencement ceremony. Barclays Center, the magnificent new world-class arena in Brooklyn, will host our entire institution — students, deans, faculty, trustees, staff, parents, friends and guests — to mark this occasion. Just as NYU brings all its units together for a common ceremony at Yankee Stadium, LIU will go to Barclays.
The University-wide commencement will be the crowning moment in a week of campus-based recognition ceremonies and activities that will celebrate our students’ hard work and accomplishments. More details related to next May’s events will be available in the coming weeks and months. Please visit www.liu.edu/commencement for updates.
I hope that all 19,000 seats will be filled with exuberant students, family, staff members and faculty, each participating in this important celebration.
