The Annual Fund program reaches out to alumni and friends to make an annual gift to the University that will directly benefit our students. The Annual Fund offers numerous giving options, making it easy and convenient to make a gift. Annual Fund donations can be made via direct mail, through the phonathon program, through corporate matching gifts and by giving online.
Collectively, Annual Fund gifts support the University’s unrestricted operations, supporting a stimulating learning environment that is characterized by excellent academics, distinguished faculty members, professional academic and career advising, small class size and world-class facilities.

Meeting Current Needs of LIU
LIU has the largest operating budget of all private universities and colleges on Long Island – over $360 million. Approximately 90 percent of our undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid, a significant portion of which is funded by the University. LIU has traditionally depended upon alumni, parents and friends to help support scholarships and other programs for students. Last year, the University received a total of $14 million dollars in contributions towards its capital and endowment projects and current operations. Won’t you help us to keep the momentum going?
The Benefit of Increasing Alumni Participation
In addition to the monetary benefit of alumni donating to the University, their giving plays an integral role in positioning the institution in the public eye and on the radar screens of corporations and foundation that often provide generous funding to support programs and services.
Every fall, when U.S. News & World Report ranks private institutions of higher learning, it uses the alumni participation rate as one of the factors in its reporting criteria. Additionally, those corporate and foundation entities that support the University often ask for the alumni participation when considering funding initiatives that would directly benefit our students. Your participation is important, a gift at any level counts!
One of the most personal ways for the University to reach its alumni is through the Phonathon program. A core group of students is hired to contact thousands of our alumni to ask for an annual gift. This process also allows the University to update its alumni records and to update alums about current activities and important campus information.
The Phonathon is a year-round program that begins September 1st and ends August 31st. If you receive a call from one of our students in the future, please take the opportunity to make a gift, to share news about your own life and professional progress, to reminisce, and to hear what has changed since your last visit to campus.
