An immersive international program with more than 3,000 alumni that offers opportunities in eight different countries, LIU Global (formerly Friends World) is the only college in the world that combines full-time immersion into foreign countries and cultures, field study, internships, and community service for one-of-a-kind education.
After a year of planning, a group of alumni - including graduates, former visiting students, and “dropout keeps” - came together in Brooklyn to celebrate fifty years of Friends World Institute, Friends World College, Friends World Program, Global College, and LIU Global.
Since the 50th anniversary in 2015, a group of alumni continued the conversation around building our alumni community and made progress towards establishing a formal Alumni Association. In August 2017, bylaws were finalized for the creation of the LIU Global Alumni Association in support of the alumni community of Friends World, Global College, and LIU Global. These included guidelines for the governance of the Association, including establishing a Board of Directors and, in Fall 2017, an interim Board was elected to launch the Association.
Looking forward, the Board’s priorities for 2018 include the historical archives, developing and executing a communications strategy, and initiating programming to connect alumni with current students. The interim Board will have two-year terms; this will enable it to make solid progress before electing new members.
