Brentwood Mom of Two to Graduate with Honors on Mother's Day
Morgan Lyle,Assistant Director of Public Relations
Long Island University
Brookville, NY – Gwendolyn Brown is proof positive you can have it all. The hardworking mom to a 13-year-old and a 9-year-old will graduate cum laude with a B.S. in marketing from the Brentwood Campus of Long Island University when the campus celebrates its commencement exercises on Mother's Day, May 13, 2007.
A full-time student as well as a full-time employee at the Research Foundation of the State University of New York at Stony Brook where she was recently promoted, Brown was awarded the Brentwood Campus Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Achievement.
"I was so surprised and honored when I had found out about the award," she said. "The whole time I was in school I wasn't really keeping track of my grades, I was more concerned with putting my head down and getting the work done."
Brown says aside from pursuing a master's degree in marketing sometime in the future, she would like to become the director of a marketing firm. But now that her schoolwork is over for the time being, she'd like to spend more time with family, friends and in her church and take a trip to Italy.
"My family was very supportive," she said, "especially my kids. They knew how important this was to me. I told them to keep hanging in there and it would be worth it in the end."
The commencement exercises for students of the Brentwood Campus of Long Island University will be held at the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville on Mother's Day, May 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
