Brentwood, N.Y. -- William H. Roberson, a professor of literature and head librarian at LIU Brentwood, has written a comprehensive literary guide to all the works of Walter M. Miller, Jr., one of the twentieth century's leading science fiction writers.
"Walter M. Miller, Jr.: A Reference Guide to His Fiction and His Life," (McFarland, 2011) provides more than 1,500 alphabetically arranged entries on Miller's life and body of work. Miller, a two-time Hugo Award winner, is author of the classic novels "A Canticle for Leibowitz" and "Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman." Roberson's book includes summaries of these two novels and all of Miller's shorter works, as well as character descriptions; explanations of the literary, cultural, historical, and religious allusions found in the works; and translations of all foreign words and phrases.
Roberson, who lives in Mastic, taught literature at the Southampton Campus of Long Island University for 30 years and is now at LIU Brentwood. He is the author of a number of books and his articles have appeared in Critique, Great Lakes Review, RQ, the East Hampton Star and Bulletin of Bibliography.
The LIU Brentwood is located on a 172 acre tree-lined property owned by the Sisters of St. Joseph at 100 Second Avenue in Brentwood. For information call 631-273-5112 or email enroll@brentwood.liu.edu.
