Find out more about the JK Watson Fellowship Program

What is the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship? The JK Watson Fellowship is a three year program that expands students’ life choices and capacity for leadership by providing transformational and cultural programming, including paid internships in the US and abroad.

What makes a JK Watson Fellow? Among the traits the Selection Panel will be looking for are demonstrated or potential leadership, creativity, a capacity to initiate and follow through, skills in working in groups, and a commitment to building a better society.

Who is eligible?  Students must be a second semester freshmen or sophomore registered in a liberal arts track (students may be double majors with a non-liberal arts concentration), demonstrate an ability to express themselves clearly, be not more than 25 years old on March 1, 2014, and be an American citizen or permanent resident.

Have LIU students received Watson Fellowships? Yes! We have had 26 students win this prestigious fellowship. In fact, LIU has always been successful in having at least one winner each year. Last year LIU Brooklyn had three winners!  Past winners’ majors have included media arts, journalism, history, biology, philosophy and English.

Are there any guarantees?  The only thing I can guarantee you is if you do not apply you will not win a fellowship.  So come to an info session and find out about this incredible opportunity.
