BK_FightingJimCrowThe LIU Brooklyn Learning Communities presents a talk by historian Brian Purnell, Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Bowdoin College, on Brooklyn history and the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). This talk draws from Purnell's book, Fighting Jim Crow in the County of Kings: The Congress of Racial Equality in Brooklyn. Purnell will discuss the history of the rise and fall of the Brooklyn chapter of CORE during the early 1960s and its campaigns against racial discrimination in housing, public, education, employment and sanitation services.
