Brooklyn, N.Y. – LIU Pharmacy and Natoli Engineering, a leading tooling manufacturer for the pharmaceutical industry, are joining forces to establish The Natoli Engineering Institute for Industrial Pharmacy Development and Research at the downtown Brooklyn campus.
The Natoli Institute will be located at LIU Pharmacy (also known as the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at LIU Brooklyn), where an existing laboratory will be renovated to hold the new institute.
"The Natoli Institute will allow industrial scientists to join with academia to conduct meaningful research on problems associated with solid dosage forms and instrumentation," said Professor Rutesh H. Dave, the graduate program director of industrial pharmacy and pharmaceutics at LIU Pharmacy and the principal investigator for the Institute.
"It will also provide an opportunity for our students to work hand-in-hand with industrial scientists to gain real life experience."
Expected to open in September, the Institute will advance knowledge in the field of pharmaceutical solid oral dosage engineering operations and instrumentation, especially on problems of sticking and picking associated with the compression of tablets, the development of formulations for new molecules and the measurements required to ensure proper delivery of formulations to the tablet press.
According to Dale Natoli, president, Natoli Engineering, "This venture offers Natoli the opportunity to bring new and innovative solutions to our customers tableting requirements. We are excited to join with LIU and look forward to a lasting partnership researching new technologies for industrial pharmacy."
LIU Pharmacy Dean David Taft added, "This institute is a wonderful platform for our two institutions to collaboratively conduct research, develop products for brand and generic industries and provide educational opportunities for current and future pharmaceutical scientists."
Natoli is the world's premier manufacturer and supplier of tablet compression tooling, accessories, presses, parts and services for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, veterinary, industrial, confectionary and chemical industries.
