Brooklyn, N.Y. – Alfred Worley, a student at LIU Brooklyn’s School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences, has won a top scholarship from CPAexcel, an innovative leader in computer-based exam review for students taking the CPA exam.
Worley, who is studying for his B.S./M.S. degree in accounting, will receive $2,500 in cash and a complete gold medal course valued at $1,800.
The CPAexcel Student Scholarship Drawing is devoted to supporting accounting education and developing leaders for the next generation of Certified Public Accountants.
A grant writer for the past seven years at the nonprofit West Harlem Community Organization, Worley said he chose to pursue accounting education because “I am in nonprofit administration – I needed my credentials to match what I am doing.”
Accounting has been a growing field as the financial regulations on businesses and individuals have become increasingly more complex. The Department of Labor expects employment for accountants and auditors to increase 16% in the next decade.
The Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, resident, who learned about the CPAexcel scholarship through the campus accounting department, said, “I would like to thank CPAexcel for selecting me as the spring 2013 scholarship winner. The CPAexcel textbooks and sample questions make a clear connection between courses in accounting and accounting systems. Without CPAexcel, I would be unable to afford the preparation courses. The lessons will enable me to prepare for the CPA exam while sitting in the requisite courses — making the connection crystal clear.”
LIU Brooklyn’s 150-credit, B.S./M.S. in Accounting degree expands the undergraduate’s accounting knowledge through graduate coursework emphasizing practical application of accounting theory in the complexities of today’s international economic environment. Upon completion of the B.S./M.S. degree, students are equipped to sit for the CPA licensing examination and to begin a professional career in today’s changing economic environment.
