Submissions are now being accepted for the 2014 Discovery Day to take place on March 26, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Arnold and Marie Schwartz Athletic Center at LIU Brooklyn. The event features presentations of scholarly works by faculty, staff, students, and alumni in an environment that encourages conversation across disciplines and fosters ongoing learning and creativity.
To submit a presentation and publication requests, visit collabra.liu.edu/brooklyn/discoveryday.
Discovery Day poster sessions provide an opportunity for presenters to share their achievements and ideas in an open and public forum. Individual and collaborative works of any academic subject matter are eligible, and presentation formats include traditional posters, as well as table top and computer displays. Scholars from all disciplines are invited to participate.
“Discovery Day has become a tradition to share faculty and student research with the LIU Brooklyn community,” says Dr. Gladys Palma de Schrynemakers, Discovery Day chair, executive director of the Office of Campus Effectiveness and Academic Support, and director of LIU Promise. “It is an opportunity to showcase through a visual medium the mission of our campus, to open the doors to the city, and the world to men and women of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds who wish to achieve the satisfaction of the educated life and to serve the public good.”
She adds: “The Discovery Day showcase helps us to achieve this mission, both inside and outside of the classroom. Presentations by teachers and students in the Long Island University/Boys and Girls High School Smart Scholars Program speak to the campus’ involvement in the community through initiatives that support college readiness among diverse students.”
Faculty and staff may complete online forms for their presentation requests, and should submit publication requests for all student presenters within their departments. Students should work closely with their advisors to submit project proposals. Once the abstract is complete, students should coordinate with them to submit the online presentation request. Please note: students are not permitted to submit forms for their own presentations.
All forms must be submitted online by March 3.
