LIU has developed a committed community of teacher-scholars who fully engage with students in the process of discovery and creative endeavor. The University’s faculty members possess elite credentials; publish groundbreaking findings; and are quoted regularly by major media outlets including the Associated Press, CNN, NBC and The New York Times.
In the past year alone, LIU researchers’ work has ranged from studying black holes to exploring the roots of salary disparities between men and women, to creating new programs for learning disabled children and adults, to identifying the cancer-fighting properties of oregano. Grants strengthen the research environment by providing opportunities for students to participate in funded research. The grant success rate for LIU proposals is above the national average (as indicated by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation).
