Description

Amber Pabon is a visiting professor of urban education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the Brooklyn Campus. Her expertise is in literacy, urban childhood & adolescent education, teacher education and issues of diversity in curriculum and pedagogy. Amber began her career teaching in New York City public schools in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn. She has also worked as a literacy staff developer for the New York City Department of Education. Amber was awarded an Enhanced Chancellor’s Fellowship at the CUNY Graduate Center where she is conducting research on the educational life histories and pedagogical practices of African – American male teachers in urban schools. Her other areas of interest include critical media literacy and language practices in urban communities. She has received several grants from the City University New York to pursue this research and has presented at a bilingual conference at the University of Strasbourg. Amber Pabon is the interim coordinator of the Adolescence Urban Education Program in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
