Description

Candy Systra has been the director of the Teaching Fellows Program at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus for four years. Prior to that, she was a field consultant for the Program. In addition, she teaches in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
She is retired from the New York City Department of Education, where she was a classroom teacher for much of her career and also became a professional development specialist; worked with the NYC Writing Project and Project Blend, which created collaboratives between alternative high school programs and District 75); was director of curriculum and instruction at a middle-high school; and served as an assistant principal and as a principal.

In addition, she has worked as a consultant in the public schools for NYU, Lehman College, the Institute for Student Achievement, Colorado Children’s Campaign, and the Public Business and Education Coalition.
