Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
The B.S. in Chemistry has been designed to provide a balanced education for those students who plan to pursue professional careers in chemistry or allied areas either immediately after attainment of their degree, or after further graduate training.
The B.S in Biochemistry focuses on the ever-growing important interface between biology and chemistry and emphasizes advanced experimental as well as theoretical principles in both the biological and chemical sciences, as a foundation for a variety of career paths, including further training in biology, chemistry or biochemistry; molecular biology; and medical or dental school. Students who successfully complete their undergraduate studies may have their degrees certified by the American Chemical Society.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers students in its M.S. program a choice of several areas of concentration: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Theoretical Chemistry. This program is designed to prepare students for entry into the broad areas of research and development, to strengthen students preparation for further study, or to allow for a concentration in chemistry necessary for inter-area study in fields such as biology and pharmacy. Graduate assistantships are available on a limited basis.
