Department of Social Work
Long Island University is the first university to offer a fully accredited social work program in Brooklyn on both the undergraduate and the graduate level. The Social Work Department offers the B.A. in Social Work and the M.S.W. (Master’s of Social Work). The M.S.W. program offers four concentrations: gerontology, not-for-profit management, child and family welfare, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment, which satisfies all academic requirements for the CASAC credential. The Department’s Common Ground Service Learning Program provides students from all disciplines with the opportunity to gain valuable volunteer experience in a wide range of service venues throughout the greater New York area. Social Work as a profession is an exciting growth area that offers professional flexibility, longevity and personal satisfaction.
