License Exam Preparation

LIU Brooklyn's School of Education offers workshops for its majors that are designed to help them prepare for the following New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE):

Assessment of Teaching Skills - Written (ATS-W)

This workshop addresses the content of the multiple-choice sections of the ATS-W and discusses a format that students can use for the written assignment.

Liberal Arts and Science Test (LAST)

This workshop provides practice on the types of multiple-choice questions found on the LAST as well as on the written assignment.

Multi-Subject Content Specialty Test (CST)

This workshop provides an explanation of the writing task for the Multi-Subject CST examination.

Workshops are given during the fall, spring, and summer semesters of each academic year. Workshop schedules are usually posted in the Pratt Building at the entrance to the School of Education and are also distributed in TLL classes and through the list-serve.

All students may avail themselves of the services of the LIU Brooklyn Writing Center and Math Center. In addition, the School of Education offers a limited number of writing tutors who are especially prepared to help TLL and CSP students. Students are usually referred to the School of Education Tutoring Program by faculty members.

A non-credit course, TLL 088 Textual Strategies for Teachers, also is available to help graduate students develop advanced literacy skills.
