Small Class Sizes & Academic Support

At LIU Brooklyn students are not just numbers. The 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio allows them to communicate and to interact with their peers and with faculty members. The Campus’ exceptional Honors program, world-renowned faculty, and professional academic advising and counseling programs provide students with the level of guidance and academic support needed to ensure success.

Student and Campus Life

Undergraduates participate in a variety of student-centered programs including: Student Government Association (SGA); Residence Hall Council; evening intramurals programs; Seawanhaka, the student newspaper; Sound, the yearbook; WLIU Radio and LIU-TV. Over 45 clubs and organizations are available to students including Alpha Lambda Delta and the National Freshman Honor Society, which is the only chapter in New York City.

Students who enroll at LIU Brooklyn also enjoy access to the new $45 million, 112,000 square-foot Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center, which provides state-of-the-art athletic facilities for students and other members of the Campus community. It features tennis courts, a running track, an eight-lane swimming pool, a therapy pool, two weight rooms, an aerobic room and a 17,000 square-foot basketball arena. Our students also like to relax in the park-like setting of the newly landscaped courtyard surrounding the world-class Kumble Theater and the Humanities Art Gallery located in the center of the LIU Brooklyn campus. Other key facilities include our four-story library, various student lounges, the new Cyber Café, and the historic Luntey Commons, part of the former Brooklyn Paramount Theater.

Division I Athletic Programs

LIU Brooklyn boasts a nationally recognized Division I athletic program representing the NEC Conference. Male and female student-athletes are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of sports; the athletic program encompasses 18 teams. During the 2006-2007 athletic year, LIU Brooklyn claimed the women’s Northeast Conference Commissioner’s Cup. This sensational accomplishment included NEC championships in women’s volleyball, soccer, indoor and outdoor track, and softball.
