The Avena Lounge, located in the Metcalf Building, lower level of the Luntey Commons, is an informal student area complete with lounge chairs, projection television, and opportunities for students to build business management and event planning skills. The lounge is student-operated, serves snacks and drinks, and is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Mondays through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. The Avena TV has cable channels, and videos are shown on specific days. There is also a game room with foosball, air hockey, two pool tables and latest X-BOX 360 and PS 3 video games. The lounge is also used for greek life events, mini-concerts, plays and other social functions. It is quiet enough for studying, and also has an area specifically suited for group study.

In the evening there is more of a winding-down atmosphere. The lounge staff also organizes functions such as Pool, Table Tennis, Domino, and video game Tournaments along with Comedy Nights, Spoken Word, Amateur Nights, Jazz Nights, Hypnotist Show, Thank You Social, Blackout Party, Karaoke Nights, and the Dating Game. Board games are always available.

Employment opportunities in the lounge through College Work-Study and part-time budget jobs also afford students the ability to hone their leadership skills while receiving payment.  Managerial positions are available as well as positions as event planners, cashiers, inventory and revenue staff, wait staff, sales persons, Office managers, and games facilitators.

The Lounge also generates income through rental to outside organizations. For more information, please contact the Avena Lounge at ext. 3390
