The 2010 Honors Conference, presented by the Honors Program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, November 4-5, 2010

Communication will be the theme of the 2010 Honors Conference at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Thursday and Friday, November 4 and 5, 2010. “Communication: An Academic Conference” will include nearly three dozen lectures and workshops by C.W. Post professors, students, alumni and guests, to be held at various locations across the campus throughout the day. The events are free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker, photojournalist, international aid worker and C.W. Post alumnus Michael Allen, will give a talk on “Communications and Relationships” in Hillwood Lecture Hall. A veteran of assignments for the U.S. government and the United Nations in the developing world, Allen has documented the lives of vulnerable people in Africa and in Central Asia, notably Afghanistan. He will be introduced by Long Island University President Dr. David Steinberg at 9 a.m.

Renowned pianist David Holzman, a professor of piano at C.W. Post who has won acclaim for his recitals and recordings, will perform on Thursday, November 4 at 7:30 pm in the atrium at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. The concert, which is sponsored by the C.W. Post Poetry Center, will include works by Elmar Landon, Chou Wen-Chung and Franz Liszt based on the poetry of Odysseus Elytis, Wang Wei and Petrarch, as well as Stefan Wolpe's “Two Songs Without Words." Members of the Honors Program will read poems that the music is derived from, and students will be invited to enter a contest to write poems inspired by the music.
