Lecture : The History of the History of Collecting by Dr. Stephen Bury, The Frick Art Reference Library

The academic study of collecting is in its early days. Approaches so far have been largely biographical although with increased use of archival materials. This lecture will look at some possible theoretical approaches, including those of Thorstein Veblen, Gerald Reitlinger and Francis Haskell. Stephen Bury is Andrew W. Mellon Chief Librarian of The Frick Art Reference Library, which hosts the Center for the History of Collecting.
