A Message from the Provost
LIU Names New President
We are delighted that the Board of Trustees has announced the selection of our new president. Kimberly R. Cline, J.D., Ed.D., former chief financial officer of the SUNY system and current president of Mercy College, will take office on July 1 as the 10th president of Long Island University. With a strong track record as a transformative leader and respected educator, we look forward to Dr. Cline's arrival this summer. We also extend our deep appreciation to Dr. David J. Steinberg, president of Long Island University, who has tirelessly served our multi-campus institution for more than 27 years. He leaves an outstanding legacy.
Middle States Site Visit
On March 20, the Middle States Evaluation Team concluded a three-day visit to LIU's residential and regional campuses. The visit, which
included peer evaluators from nine colleges and universities, was part of the university's accreditation renewal process which occurs every 10
years. Led by Jack P. Varsalona, Ph.D., president of Wilmington University, the evaluation team assessed our Self-Study Report – a thorough
document that identifies how LIU meets the 14 standards outlined in the Middle States Commission of Higher Education's "Characteristics
of Excellence in Higher Education." Dr. Varsalona announced to the university community that the team was impressed with the performance
and progress of the institution, calling LIU a "rare place." The team's final report will be submitted to Middle States, which will issue its formal
statement on the University's accreditation status in June. As both a University Officer and the proud Provost of LIU Post, I extend my sincere
gratitude to the members of the University community who collaborated for more than two years on the Self-Study and contributed to the
success of this tremendous effort.
