What should society do about global warming? How serious is this issue from a scientific perspective and how do contemporary philosophers struggle with the moral implications of this issue?

These and other hot topics are examined at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y. as part of “Focus the Nation,” a national initiative that raises awareness and encourages dialogue about the impact of global warming and other environmental issues.

A distinguished faculty panel will include Dr. Tavis Barr (economics), Dr. Glenn Magee (philosophy) and Dr. Vic DiVenere (earth and environmental science). The forum is moderated by Dr. Mark Pires of the Earth and Environmental Science Department.

Titled “Addressing an Uncertain and Warming Future,” the panel discussion takes place in Top of the Commons, Hillwood Commons, at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008. This event is sponsored by the C.W. Post Student Affairs-Faculty Partnership Initiative Committee (SAFPIC), Hutton House Lectures and P.E.A.C.E. (Protecting Every Aspect Concerning the Environment).
