C.W. Post Economics Professor Panos Mourdoukoutas Participates in Round-Table on China’s Economy; Report Released by China’s Foreign Affairs Office
China’s Foreign Affairs Office,
Dr. Panos Mourdoukoutas, chair of the Economics Department at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, participated in a round table discussion on China’s economy with many distinguished Chinese economists. Their contributions were published in the report, “Economist’s Roundtable Discussion on China’s Economy,” which was issued in English and Chinese by China’s Foreign Affairs Office on March 31, 2011.
Dr. Mourdoukoutas, author of “China Against Herself: Imitation or Innovation in International Business,” argues that “China’s model has been relying heavily on exports. While this model worked nicely during the bubble economy, when the world was growing very fast, it is hitting a snag in the post-bubble economy when the world is growing slowly. China must shift from exports to domestic demand to avoid confrontation with its major trade partners, including the United States.”
