Brookville, N.Y. – Technology educators at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and their Long Island partner, LogicWing, will present the first PadCamp event on Long Island on Friday, November 11. PadCampLI is being held as an "unconference" to explore the effective use of tablets, e-readers and other handheld mobile devices as educational tools. Audience members include K-12 teachers and administrators as well as college professors and administrators.
The unconference philosophy is one that allows participants to take charge of their own learning. Workshops are scheduled the morning of the conference by its attendees. "The sessions are meant to be meaningful, facilitated conversations where each participant is encouraged to be heard," said Dr. Bette Schneiderman, a professor in the College of Education and Information Sciences and a coordinator of the unconference. Modeled after the successful Pad-Camp held in Galloway Township NJ this past summer, and other edCamps around the country, PadCampLI will take its own form and ultimately be presented with similar engagement and dynamism, Dr. Schneiderman added.
The free event will be held in Humanities Hall on the C.W. Post Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit http://padcampli.ticketleap.com now to secure a spot as space is limited. More information will be posted as the event progresses at http://www.padcampli.org. For additional questions email firstname.lastname@example.org.
PadCampLI is supported by the C.W. Post Campus, the Office of Academic Affairs of Long Island University, and DSL21, the Center for Design, Systems & Learning in the 21st Century.
