8th Annual LIU Band Festival At Tilles Center For The Performing Arts

Brookville, N.Y. – The LIU Band Festival at Tilles Center is a spirited four day festival, featuring workshops, rehearsals and a final concert with talented university band students and regional high school bands. The festival will culminate on Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m. in the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. James McRoy, chair of the LIU Post music department and music professor, will lead the festival band as artistic director and conductor. Guest Conductors at the 8th Annual Band Festival include Scott Dunn, Matthew Sisia and Julie Giroux, who also will serve as the event's composer-in-residence.
The festival will feature performances by the LIU Post Wind Ensemble, LIU Post Symphonic Band, Baldwin High School Wind Symphony, and Oyster Bay High School Wind Ensemble in conjunction with the Tilles Festival Band (a 180-member ensemble consisting of the university band students and the two participating high school band ensembles.)
During her career, Ms. Giroux has composed and orchestrated music for television and film. In 2011, she received an Emmy for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music Direction" at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards. She was the first woman and the youngest person ever to win the award in that category. She has had the honor of scoring for Celine Dion, Liza Minnelli and Peabo Bryson, Jon Bob Jovi, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Reba McIntyre and other recording artists.
