Adam GrohmanLIU Post's Adam Grohman, a Brookville resident, has been named one of Long Island's "Top Advocates for Historic Preservation & Education" by the Oyster Bay Historical Society.
The honor, for which he will be feted at a benefit awards dinner in support of the Oyster Bay Historical Society on July 10, 2012, is in recognition of his work with the Underwater Historical Research Society (www.uhrs.org), which he co-founded in 2004.

Adam Grohman is director of Student Conduct & Community Education, and the Coordinator of Veterans and Military Affairs, at LIU Post.

Born and raised in New Jersey, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Film from LIU Post (formerly the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University), and subsequently obtained a Masters in Arts in American History from American Military University.

A boatswain's mate in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, Grohman is a PADI Dive Master and has successfully researched hundreds of shipwrecks and maritime incidents in the New York and Long Island region. He has published 11 volumes that cover a wide range of maritime history including shipwrecks, submarines, diving equipment utilized by the UDTs, maritime disasters, diving guides, and general aspects of maritime history. In addition to providing lectures to various community groups, historical societies, and other organizations, Grohman and his team of researchers actively assist other historians in their quest for information regarding maritime history through their "Portholes into the Past" program.

His columns, "In Our Waters" – focusing on interesting aspects of regional maritime history - and "Sentinels and Saviors of the Seas" – which highlights the rich history of the United States Coast Guard - are featured monthly in Long Island Boating World Magazine.

Grohman's recognition will take place at the inaugural "Top Advocates for Historic Preservation and Education" awards reception. It takes place on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at The Mansion at the Woodlands at Woodbury, One Southwoods Road, Woodbury NY.
