Eco-Artist Roy Staab to Create Environmental Installation with LIU Post Students
Rita Langdon,Associate Provost and Director of Public Relations & Marketing
Long Island University, LIU Post
Eco-artist Roy Staab will collaborate with LIU Post students to create an outdoor environmental sculpture on the LIU Post campus from April 9-23, 2012. This is a rare opportunity for students to work with Staab, who has created environmental sculptures across the United States as well as in France, Italy, Japan, Canada and Costa Rica. His earth-sensitive site-specific installations use locally available materials, from bamboo to twigs, and result in ephemeral earthworks that eventually devolve back into nature; he documents his work with his own photography.
The project at LIU Post (formerly the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University) will involve members of the entire campus. Students, faculty and staff are invited to help collect natural materials for the installation; assemble the installation; photograph to document each stage of the process; videotape to record the collaboration; and blog and tweet about the progress.
The installation will occur over several days, from April 9 to 23 in a grassy knoll near the Fine Arts Center and Sculpture Building.
