Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos to Speak at LIU Post

George MaragosBrookville, N.Y. -- Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos will speak at LIU Post on Tuesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. Maragos, who is in his first term as the fiscal watchdog for the County, will be discussing the role of business in government. He holds an MBA and believes his insight may be of value and great interest to the students of LIU Post's College of Management which includes students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in business, accountancy, and health care and public administration.

The event is sponsored by the College of Management's Office of Graduate Programs.

"George Maragos' years of experience in both the public and private sectors give him an invaluable perspective of the financial industry, as well as government,"said George Andreadis, director of LIU Post's Office of Graduate Programs for the College of Management. "We are excited that he will be speaking to our students to discuss the relevance of a graduate degree and offer his unique perspective."

Nassau County has a population of 1.3 million and annual budget of $2.6 billion. As comptroller, Maragos is charged with an assortment of tasks, including monitoring the budget and financial operations, auditing government agencies and agencies with county contracts to uncover waste and abuse, and reviewing county contracts and claims. He reports on matters that significantly affect Nassau's financial health and operations, working with the administration and legislature to help the county overcome its fiscal challenges, preparing Nassau's comprehensive Annual Financial Report and administering the county payroll and employee health benefits.

Maragos is the founder of SDS Financial Technologies, a growing organization providing financial information and online trading services to the financial industry. SDS has been in business in New York for over 20 years. Maragos has over 35 years of senior management positions and accomplishments with leading organizations in banking, consulting and information systems. As president of SDS, he guided the firm's growth for 20 years. Prior to SDS, Maragos was a vice president at Citicorp and Chase as well as the director of telecommunications for Treasury Systems. He holds a master in business administration from Pace University in New York City, and a bachelor of electrical engineering from McGill University in Montreal.
