LIU Post sends 12 to IHSA Regionals & Zimmermann qualifies for Cacchione Cup at IHSA Nationals

Broookville, N.Y. - The LIU Post Equestrian Team ended their regular competition season on Sunday, March 25 at the show hosted by Stony Brook finishing 2nd in the IHSA Zone 2, Region 4. Rider Kristen Zimmermann is among the top equestrians from LIU Post who will compete not only as part of the college team at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association regional finals but she will also compete for the coveted United States Equestrian Federation Cacchione Cup at the 39th annual IHSA National Championships, May 3-6, at the Hunt Horse Complex of the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. With the most combined flat and over fences points, Kristen is the regional high point rider from the IHSA’s Zone 2, Region 4 and as such, earned the privilege to compete for the Cup, which recognizes the top IHSA hunter seat open rider for the season.
Joining Kristen (7, 8) as Zone 2, Region 4 qualifiers are Maria Arato (3), Kristen Becker (1), Deanna Culen (3), Christina Diovanni (2), Barbara Fiore (1), Mary Gibson (2), Elizabeth Johnston (3), Michelle Liebold (3), Dara Massulo (2), Laura Powell (5, 6) and Ashley Staib (2). Regionals are slated for Sunday, April 1 at Good Shepherd Farm, Yaphank, NY.
The Cacchione Cup is named for Mario "Marty" Cacchione, whose son Bob Cacchione is the Founder and Executive Director of the IHSA. Each of the 36 Cacchione Cup entries (regionals winners) will compete for the coveted title of the 2012 IHSA Nationals Cacchione Cup Champion.
