LIU Post Welcomes the Class of 2017

Welcome Week features get-togethers, sports, trip to Hershey & Convocation

Group of students in Riggs ParkBrookville, N.Y. -- LIU Post will kick off the 2013-2014 academic year with Welcome Week – social gatherings, sporting events and a trip to Hershey Park  to welcome returning students and the Class of 2017. Welcome Week will conclude with Convocation, the University’s formal welcome to new students, on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Move-in Day for freshmen is Monday, Sept. 2, and returning students will move back into the residence halls the following day. Freshmen can cool off at an ice cream social Monday at 8 p.m. in the Long Island Room at Winnick Student Center, and everyone who built up a big appetite lugging belongings will enjoy the annual Welcome Back BBQ Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Riggs Park, sponsored by the Association for Campus Programming and Aramark Dining Services.

Other highlights of Welcome Week (which really lasts two weeks) are a trip to Hershey Park Sunday, Sept. 8 for $25, including bus ride and park entry, and the home football opener Saturday, Sept. 14 vs. Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. The full schedule can be seen here.

Convocation, which begins at 12:30 p.m. in Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, formally welcomes the Class of 2017 with pomp and circumstance. There will be music by the LIU Post Wind Ensemble and the Long Island University Chorus, both under the direction of Dr. James McRoy. LIU President Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, English Department Chair Dr. John Lutz and Student Government Association President Dan Potenzieri will speak. All are welcome to come honor the incoming class and celebrate the start of another academic year.
