21st Annual Long Island Guitar Festival at LIU Post, March 17 – 24, 2013

Guitar Festival 2013Brookville, N.Y. – A weeklong celebration of musical performances, workshops and master classes will take place at the 21st Annual Long Island Guitar Festival at LIU Post from March 17 – 24. The festival will feature internationally renowned musicians including John Williams & John Etheridge, Gyan Riley, William Kanengiser, Eden- Stell Duo, Dennis Koster, Matt Palmer and Artesian Collaborative.

The Long Island Guitar Festival, directed by Harris Becker, is an annual international festival presented by the Department of Music in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at LIU Post. Festival sponsors include the D’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts, the Augustine Foundation, Savarez, Sam Ash, Murphy’s Music, the John P. McGrath Fund of Long Island University and dedicated individuals. The festival represents the ongoing commitment of LIU to reach out to the artistic community and continue an established tradition of excellence in guitar performance and pedagogy.

In the past, the Long Island Guitar Festival has proudly presented such distinguished guitarists as Paul Galbraith, Paul O’Dette (lute), Ana Vidovic, Jerorme Ducharme, Newman/Oltman Duo, Fabio Zanon, Denis Azabagic, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Gyan Riley, Raphaella Smits, Adam Holzman, Roland Dyens, David Leisner, Frederic Hand, Carlo Domeniconi (U.S. Debut), Manuel Barrueco, Michael Lorimer, Eduardo Fernandez, Cecilia Siqueria, Hayley Savage, Jorge Caballero, Howard Alden, Mark Elf, Eliot Fisk, Ben Moran, Frank Vignola, Chieli Minucci, Jerry Willard, Howard Morgen, Bucky and John Pizzarelli, Pat O’Brien, Dennis Koster, Harris Becker, Amanda Cook, Ernesto Tamayo, Kevin Dolen, Pasquale Bianculli, Curtis High School Guitar Ensemble, Dennis Cinelli, Dušan Bogdanović, John Zaccari, David Starobin, Benjamin Verdery and lutenist, Ronn McFarlane.

Workshops at previous festivals have included computer music notation, high school guitar ensembles, sight reading skills, improvisation, guitar in the public school classroom, electric guitar techniques, Bach cello suites for guitar, fingerboard harmony and chamber music. Special concerts have included the “Legacy of Segovia” with Andres Segovia protégé Michael Lorimer, Guitarist –Composers, and commemorating the 10th festival anniversary, a composition by renowned composer Carlo Domeniconi entitled “Long Island Suite” (written for Harris Becker & Pasquale Bianculli). The festival has established partnerships with high schools including Greenwich High School and the United Nations International School, Curtis High School, Brentwood High School, Weaver Academy from North Carolina, the Wild Cat Guitar Ensemble from Virginia as well as local community colleges.

Guitar Festival attendees can purchase an All-Event Pass for $175 (for all events not including the John Williams & John Etheridge) or buy tickets for individual events with discounts available for members of guitar societies, students and senior citizens.

The John Williams and John Etheridge Duo Concert: $52 & $47 (Tilles Center only).

Concert tickets are $30 per person ($25 for students and seniors) for: Artesian Collaborative, Gyan Riley, Evening Music Dream, William Kanengiser, Eden –Stell Duo, Matt Palmer and Dennis Koster.

The High School Ensemble Concert and the Emerging Artist Concert are $15 ($10 for students and seniors).

The LIU Post Guitars & Flutes concert $20 ($15 for students and seniors).

Tickets for workshops on “Electric Guitar Techniques”, “An Introduction to AMI Scale Technique” and a discussion of “Flamenco Guitar Techniques for the Classical Guitarist” are $15.

Tickets are $10 each for other master classes (as auditor).
