Dr. Robert Hannafin, dean of the College of Education, Information and Technology at LIU Post, will serve on a panel titled “P20 – Gaps from the Front Lines” at the Education Growth Summit Conference, formerly The Venture Capital in Education, on January 23 at the TimesCenter in New York City. The conference will bring together entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and private equity investors, company and foundation executives, and institutional leaders to explore the realities of investing in the global education marketplace.
For many education entrepreneurs, the core customers are K-12 districts and postsecondary institutions and their respective professionals. While individual teachers and professors are often eager to test and evaluate dynamic solutions to improve instruction and operational processes, institutional customers generally prove more elusive and challenging for emergent companies. The panel, composed of K-12 superintendents and senior postsecondary administrators, will discuss the roots of this reluctance to adopt and highlight strategies and considerations for entrepreneurs and investors.
Dr. Hannafin, a former learning and development executive at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, leads a comprehensive college of education, information and technology that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in teacher education, educational administration, counseling, communication sciences and disorders, library and information science, computer science and management engineering. Dr. Hannafin is the architect of a new master’s degree in corporate learning and development, which trains teachers and corporate associates for the field of professional skills development, including such roles as trainer, instructional designer or manager, facilitator, coach, or consultant.
