LIU Post Hosts Special Education Symposium
Acting U.S. assistant secretary of education, NYS assistant education commissioner among panelists

Brookville, N.Y. – Michael Yudin, acting United States assistant secretary of education for special education and rehabilitative services, was among the panelists at a symposium on “Building Effective Educational Teams: Meaningful Stakeholder Involvement” at LIU Post Friday, June 7, 2013.
Also taking part in the symposium was James DeLorenzo, New York assistant education commissioner for special education. Opening remarks were delivered by New York State Regent Roger Tilles, former chairman of the Long Island University Board of Trustees.
The symposium was presented by the Long Island Parent Center, which provides training and resources to families and professionals to promote collaboration and enhance outcomes for students with disabilities. The Long Island Parent Center is funded by the state Education Department and administered by the Center for Community Inclusion at LIU Post.
Other panelists included: Debbie Benson, New York State Council on Children and Families; Joanne Cashman and Patrice Linehan, IDEA Partnership; Patricia Geary, New York State Education Department; Jaci Harris, Long Island Association of Special Education Commissioners; Desiree Moore, Youth Power; Yvonne Sinisgalli, Long Island Parent Center/Long Island Advocacy Center; David Rothus, New York State United Teachers; David Brewer, Cornell University Employment and Disability Institute; Cathy Romano, New York State PTA, and Dr. Evelyn Castro, New York City Parent Academy and professor at LIU Brooklyn.
