LIU Post College of Management Professor Awarded Fulbright Specialist Grant

Dr. Baichun XiaoBrookville, N.Y. -- Dr. Baichun Xiao, chairman of the Department of Management in the College of Management at LIU Post has been chosen as a Fulbright Specialist in economics.

Dr. Xiao will be involved with high-quality research in microeonomics at the Banking Academy of University of Rijeka, Croatia, by developing training programs for mentors at the university’s doctoral and graduate programs. He will be working on site in Croatia during summer 2013.

The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs administers the Fulbright program with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. The program grants awards to U.S. faculty and professors to engage in short-term collaborative two to six week projects at host institutions in over 100 countries worldwide.

Dr. Xiao received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Nanjing University, China, an M.B.A. from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and a Ph.D. in operations research/operations management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Before joining LIU Post (formerly known as the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University), he was chairman of the Computing and Decision Sciences Department at Seton Hall University.

Dr. Xiao also serves as director of the Chinese-American Research Center for Service and Operations Management at Southwest Jiaotong University, China. He has been a visiting professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Sichuan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Electronic University of Science and Technology, Jiangsu University, and Nanjing University of Finance and Economics.

A member of Board of Trustees of Nanjing University, his research interests include revenue management, service management and optimization. He has published in Operations Research, Management Science, Mathematical Programming, European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Sciences, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, and other leading journals in the areas of management science and operations management. He has conducted many research projects for airline, hotel, pharmaceutical and telecommunication industries.
