Brookville, N.Y. - Ten students from local high schools were distinctly honored by the LIU Post Campus Art Department at the May 15th awards ceremony for the Tenth Annual 12 x12 Exhibition. All of the participating students were selected by their teachers to represent their high schools in the exhibition. The exhibition was open to 12” x 12” two - dimensional media, 12” x 12” x 12” three - dimensional media, and time-based video submissions that were no longer than 144 seconds. This is the largest 12x12 Exhibition to date, with over 245 artworks from more than 32 schools. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, the Exhibition was juried and awards were given in the following categories: Oil Pastel, Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Graphite, Acrylic/Oil, Digital Illustration, Mixed Media, Photography, Sculpture, Video. The work submitted was from art programs across Long Island and into Brooklyn and Queens.
The following ten students were recognized with awards: Mayra Ayala, Elmont Memorial High School; Brianne Giuliano, MacArthur High School; Elizabeth Webb, Oceanside High School; Sydney Sopchack, MacArthur, High School; Lynn Hur, Syosset High School; Jenna Ruiz, Plainview-Old Bethpage High School; Jillian Lentintello, Huntington High School; Leah Vallario, Half Hollow Hills High School East; Joe Berry, Long Island Lutheran High School; Tae Jeong Kim, Bethpage High School.
This year’s work is an excellent example of a wide selection of media. The work ranges from traditional drawings to wood-carvings with painting integrated into the form to three dimensional animated videos. It really is exciting to see as it is evident that each piece is personal to the artist but conveys real talent in form at such an early age.
