Dr. Andrew Rosman
Brookville, N.Y. – Andrew Rosman Ph.D., dean of the College of Management at LIU Post, will discuss “Higher Education’s ‘Burning Platform’ – A Technology-Enabled Perfect Storm” in a talk at Long Island venture capital firm Canrock Ventures Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Rosman’s talk is part of the firm’s Canrock Labs Executive Seminar Series. It will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Canrock Ventures’ offices at 100 Duffy Ave., Suite 510, Hicksville, N.Y.

“Technology has enabled universities to seek more revenue and reduce costs, as well as allowed students to seek more relevant, engaging, and less-expensive higher education that may not necessarily result in a degree,” Rosman said. “It enables employers to seek a better-prepared workforce, and venture capitalists to seek return on investment from higher education. There are many technology-driven challenges besides MOOCs (massive open online courses) facing the traditional education model. Higher education essentially is at a ‘burning platform’ moment, akin to the challenges facing Nokia that caused their CEO to use the same metaphor to challenge employees to action. The focus of this presentation is to discuss how venture capital and technology are shaping the burning platform faced by higher education and to consider how higher education might respond.”

A former faculty member and director of the first online graduate degree at the University of Connecticut, Rosman’s primary research focus has been on how decision-makers use information with the objective of identifying ways to improve decision behavior. He has published research in numerous journals and been recognized by the United States Distance Learning Association for best practices in online education (2007) and for excellence in distance learning teaching (2011). He is also an associate editor of the Journal of Accounting Education.

He has earned degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Ph.D.) and Hofstra University (B.B.A.) and is a certified public accountant.
