Brookville, N.Y. — LIU Post landed the No. 37 spot in the 2014 Best Colleges for Veterans Services of Regional Universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report.
The list distinguishes the top-ranked schools that participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active service members apply, pay for, and complete their degrees.
“I was in the Coast Guard for 10 years, and it was wonderful to have assistance from the University and the veterans group on campus, Veterans and Students United, when transitioning into school life,” said undergraduate Michael Knauer.
He now serves as vice president of Veterans and Students United and welcomes the opportunity to give back. “There are a lot of roadblocks that a veteran encounters when they try to go back to school, and I’m happy that I can help,” he added.
Fellow Coast Guard veteran Adam Grohman (B.F.A. ’00), LIU Post associate dean of students and faculty advisor to Veterans and Students United, says it’s no surprise that LIU Post is ranked so high on this list. “It’s an honor to serve those who have served us proudly, and we continue to expand our services to our veterans and veteran-dependent students,” he added.
Veterans looking for academic assistance should contact the LIU Post Veterans Office at 516-299-2256.
