Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Brings Bold Vision to Tilles Center
Susanna Stickley,Director of Marketing and Communications
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's bold vision–top global choreographers, distinctive groundbreaking works, and virtuoso dancers–has fostered a jewel of a dance company in the American West. Their sheer virtuosity has enchanted New York audiences as well, and they bring their unique spark of inspiration to Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post on Friday, May 2, at 8 pm. The evening’s performance is sponsored, in part, by continuing endowment support of dance performances at Tilles Center by Eric and Sandy Krasnoff.
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (ASFB) is renowned for collaborations with contemporary choreographers, and the evening’s program will feature Over Glow, choreography by Jorma Elo, set to the music of Felix Mendelssohn and Ludwig van Beethoven; Cayetano Soto’s Beautiful Mistake with music by Olafur Arnalds and Charles Wilson; and the brand-new Heart Space of Nicolo Fonte (music by Ezio Bosso), which premiered Feb. 14, 2014. The entire program is true to ASFB’s focus on contemporary work: Over Glow had its debut performance in 2011 and Beautiful Mistake was first presented to audiences in June 2013.
The company’s unique pioneering spirit arises from its dual set of home cities: Aspen, nestled in the Rocky Mountains, and Santa Fe, gracing the southwestern plateau. For 17 years, ASFB has served as a prestigious arts incubator and a showcase for choreographic invention, to both popular and critical acclaim.
The ballet company forms the core of a multifaceted arts organization contributing to the cultural landscape of Aspen and Santa Fe. A committed arts presenter, ASFB curates high-quality dance programming for home audiences. Dance education is a priority, with a well-established network of ballet schools training children and adults. An award-winning outreach program, steeped in Mexico's rich folkloric culture, fortifies community connections.
