Nine M.F.A. Students Mount Thesis Work at LIU Post and in New York City

Communications & Marketing, LIU,

MFAThesisLIU Post presents its 2014 M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition in two venues, at the Steinberg Museum of Art in Hillwood Commons, April 7 to May 17; and at Coohaus Art Gallery in Manhattan, April 7 to 16. The exhibition features works by nine artists graduating this spring from LIU Post's Fine Arts and Design graduate program. Both exhibitions are free and open to the public, and provide a broad view of each artist's breadth and range.

This year, biography informed the works of several in the show, including those of Jie Geng (summer), Mengxing Hu, Esther Marie, Tricia Paulin, and Jordan Walker. Personal stories and perspectives regarding identity were translated into abstract paintings, as well as multimedia and photographic installations. Other artists explored the possibilities offered by different materials, such as burned wood, ceramics, and found objects in Dasha Bazanova’s works, epoxy and oil paint in Sung Bok Lee’s sculptural paintings, charcoal and shaped paper in Melissa Maiello’s drawings, and Zin Helena Song’s painted architectural blocks and panels.

LIU Post’s graduate program in fine arts is an intensive, yet flexible, 60-credit program that offers advanced art students the opportunity to further their creative development and pursue a graduate degree in a two- or three-year plan of study. Within the M.F.A. in Fine Arts and Design program, students select a concentration in painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, or computer graphics, and are mentored by student-selected faculty teams.
