LIU Community Rallies to Help Build Homes in Tijuana
Sarah DeCamp,Associate Director of Public Relations
Fifteen students and alumni of LIU Post’s Newman Club visited Tijuana, Mexico, to help local residents build houses and apartments from May 25-31. It was the 12th annual Builders of Hope trip, organized by the Newman Catholic Parish, the Roman Catholic student organization at LIU Post.
During their seven-day stay in Tijuana, the LIU Post volunteers dug foundation trenches, put in the foundation, poured the floors, and built the cement walls of houses for families in need. In addition to building houses, the group visited an all-girls orphanage, went to a Mexican baseball game, spent time at the wall at the border from the Mexican side, and did some shopping in Puerto Nuevo with a visit to a local restaurant.
