Commencement
Commencement
Graduation is held in early May and is the grandest event of the school year. LIU Post graduates approximately 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students each year. More than 10,000 students, faculty, staff, parents and guests attend the graduation ceremony, held under a magnificent white tent at the foot of the Great Lawn. The tent runs the entire length of Humanities Hall—equivalent to the size of a football field. The ceremony honors students who graduated in September, January and May.
The ceremony includes a formal processional, a commencement speaker, the presentation of Honorary Degrees, recognition of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and the general conferral of undergraduate and graduate degrees by the academic schools. Recognition of individual graduates takes place at the college/school receptions, which immediately follow the formal exercise.
