The Goals

C.W. Post Athletes, Students, and Alumni

GOAL

Improved Recruitment and Retention of LIU Post Students

In a highly competitive educational market where consumers have many choices, every small detail matters when evaluating a school. The current stadium, a decidedly visible facility on LIU Post, is home to a press box, seating and scoreboard that were installed in the 1960s. The facility has deteriorated to the point where LIU Post can no longer show this area to prospective students despite its location adjacent to the new Pratt Recreation Center.

Paul Forestell, Ph. D.“To me, Pioneer Spirit is all about passion, perseverance and blazing a trail. This is an opportunity for our alumni, our parents, our students and surrounding community to unite behind a project that will make an immediate and visible impact.”

Paul Forestell, Ph.D.
Provost, LIU Post

GOAL

Enhanced Support of Student-Athletes

Continued success on the field requires a constant stream of talented new athletes. Improved stadium seating and the accompanying refurbishment of the facility will impress both athletic recruits and their parents. The sports stadium will be designed with the care and quality that the University invests in its students and academic facilities.

Thresa Mall Mullarkey“LIU Post is proud to launch The Pioneer Spirit Campaign to bring alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff together behind a collective goal – to raise a new stadium that will greatly enhance the student experience.”

Peter Gibson“My participation as a student-athlete was a major influence in my life. It armed me with self-discipline, a sense of responsibility to the team, and the confidence to take risks. I now have the ability to give back and make a positive impact in the lives of current students and I haven’t hesitated. As alumni, we all have the ability to make a difference and this campaign gives us the opportunity to do so.”

GOAL

Improved Competitive Position

The new stadium will allow the University to compete for top-notch students and athletes among competitor schools on Long Island. In recent years, local institutions have made significant athletic facility improvements: Hofstra University’s stadium renovation in 2002 at a cost of $20 million; Stony Brook University’s stadium construction in 2002 for $22 million; Dowling College’s multipurpose athletic complex in Brookhaven for $12 million; and Adelphi University’s new athletic complex for $42 million. St. Joseph College’s athletic complex is currently under construction at a cost of $12 million.

Bryan Collins“Will Rodgers said, ‘Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.’ This is our rallying cry at LIU Post athletics. We teach our athletes to never accept status quo. The campaign will allow the athletic program to keep moving forward with strength – that’s what Pioneer Spirit is all about.”

GOAL

Increased Value to Alumni

Like many colleges and universities across the nation, the value of an undergraduate or graduate degree rises and falls with the institution’s reputation. Upgrading this highly visible facility on the campus will enhance LIU Post’s appeal to alumni, prospective students and parents. In addition, the stadium will foster pride among current students and student-athletes in their future alma mater.

Sal Naro“I have chosen to take a lead role in the campaign because my wife and I are both graduates, our daughter is a current student, and our closest friends today are people we met while at Post. I feel a tremendous responsibility to watch out for the University’s future. As alumni, I think we all carry that obligation.”
