Energy Efficient Lighting
Since 2010, LIU Post has undertaken a large-scale lighting retrofit project that was completed in May 2013. Approximately 600 light fixtures were retrofitted in 2010 to improve efficiency and reduce consumption, resulting in a savings of $5,000 per year. In 2011, 1,600 light fixtures were replaced primarily in the book stacks of the Library, resulting in a savings of $10,000 per year. And in 2012, another 5,700 light fixtures were replaced in 20 different buildings. Total energy cost savings for this project is expected to reach $70,000 per year.
These projects were substantially funded through LIPA rebates and were installed by LIU Post’s own electricians.
