Description

Helen Ballestas has been a nurse since 1996 and an adult nurse practitioner since 2011. Understanding that the nursing profession requires vision and leadership, her PhD from Capella University (2008) focused on Leadership for Higher Education. Main research interests include: cultural competency/diversity in nursing, nursing education. Her agenda on cultural competency/diversity seeks to strengthened diversity in the nursing work force. This continued work is evidenced by her commitment to global programs enriching cultural competency/diversity among all nurses. Her dissertation research focused on self-imposed health care disparities among migrant workers. This work has stimulated continued awareness of health disparities among minority populations and the role of the registered professional nurse in bridging the gap of these disparities. She is very active in many associations which include the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN). She is the national chair for education and the president of the local chapter of NAHN.
