Description

Professor Gucwa received her B.S., in Clinical Laboratory Science from Stony Brook University in 2001 and is a certified medical technologist under the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Soon after obtaining her degree, she worked as a Microbiologist at Mercy Medical Center and then for several years as a Cytogenetic Technologist at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. 

She obtained her Ph.D., in Genetics from Stony Brook University under the direction of Professor Deborah A. Brown. Her graduate work focused on the recruitment of the clathrin adaptor protein Eps15 to early endosomes. In addition, she worked on characterizing the localization and phosphorylation of Ack1 mutants in collaboration with Professor Todd W. Miller, also at Stony Brook University.

She joined the faculty of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at LIU Post in 2011. She is interested in continuing to work on Ack1, hoping to further characterize how overexpression of Ack1 affects cell function.
