Description

A graduate of The Eastman School of Music, Jennifer Scott Miceli, Ph.D. is director of music education and vocal jazz at LIU Post Campus. Miceli maintains an active guest conducting schedule that includes numerous state-division, all-county and district-wide elementary and secondary choral festivals in the northeast corridor. Under her direction, the Long Island Sound Vocal Jazz Ensemble has performed at the esteemed Montreux (Switzerland) and Vienne (France) Jazz Festivals; in New Orleans; and at various festivals and jazz venues in Central New York and Manhattan, and on Long Island.

In 2004 Miceli founded and currently directs Bella Voci Women’s Choir: Women and Girls United in Song for Cancer Prevention and Cure. This Long Island-based ensemble includes mothers and daughters, sisters, teachers and students, and friends who wish to use their musical gifts for the purpose of raising money for the American Cancer Society. Miceli’s “Audiation Sequence for Choral Ensembles” featuring Bella Voci is included on the upcoming New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA)-sponsored music teaching and learning DVD entitled “Music Views.”

A specialist in Edwin E. Gordon’s Music Learning Theory and the Kodály approach, Miceli presents statewide, divisional, national and international interest sessions involving standards-based music teaching and learning, assessment, teacher education, choral music education and academic/community music partnership programs. Her expertise includes PreK-16 music curriculum development that centers on sequential music teaching and learning. During her tenure at LIU Post, she has developed and continues to nuture music teacher education partnership experiences with Long Island school districts and with the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center where she directs the RompertunesSM Early Childhood Music Teaching and Learning Program.

Miceli’s articles appear in Choral Cues, The School Music News, General Music Today, the Journal of Music Teacher Education and Audea-The Official Publication of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning. Her chapter on measurement and evaluation is included in “The School Choral Program” (GIA, 2008).

A flutist and a singer, Miceli has performed in England, France, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and The Czech Republic. She currently serves as president of the New York State Council of Music Teacher Education Programs.
