2016-2017 Auditions Information


Students should apply to LIU Post prior to auditioning by following this link: https://apply.liu.edu/quickapp/. Admission to the Theatre program for actors requires an audition and interview. For the Design and Production program an interview is required. Admission to Dance requires an audition and interview. Auditions and interviews are by appointment only. Students may either e-mail or phone for an appointment. Students who successfully complete their application, audition and interview in the fall will be informed of the department's decision in January. Students who successfully complete their application, audition and interview in the winter or spring will be informed of the department's decision in March.

Audition/Interview Requirements

Students should prepare two short contemporary monologues in English from published plays.  Please do not use material from monologue books, poetry, movies or television shows, or unpublished plays. Monologues should be from characters aged within 5 - 7 years of student's actual age. Students interested in Musical Theatre should substitute 16 bars of a song for one monologue, and must provide their own CD accompaniment. Total audition time is 3 minutes. BRING HEADSHOT AND RESUME. Students interested in production and design should bring a portfolio of their recent work.

VIDEO AUDITIONS

International students, and domestic students who cannot get to an audition site below, may submit an audition video using the Acceptd website: www.getacceptd.com/liu.  There is a $25 fee to register with Acceptd.  Your audition material should follow the guidelines listed above.  In addition, for video auditions, we recommend that you shoot the audition in a medium shot, meaning from your waist up, and against a neutral background with no windows.  Previously filmed material, edited to a 3-minute audition, is acceptable only if you have principal roles and the material is fictional. No television commercials or industrial film acting is acceptable. All audition material must be in English. Video auditions must be submitted by February 1. Applicants must also complete an application to LIU Post, either on our website (www.liu.edu/post/admissions) or using the Common App (www.commonapp.org).

DANCE

Admission to the Dance Studies program requires an audition and interview.

Audition/Interview Requirements

Students should expect a ballet barre, with center combinations in Modern, Jazz, Tap, & African Dance. We do not expect proficiency in all areas. You can expect the audition to run for approximately 2 hours. BRING HEADSHOT AND RESUME.
